Eco-friendly Swimwear

Amazing things are happening in the fashion industry and that is the desire for ethical, sustainable apparel and accessories. It seems to be an ideal selling point if a product is stylish as it is eco-friendly. Consumers have come to the realization that wearing a piece that positively affects our world adds value and respect to not only to the product but the individual wearing the product. As the great Blair Wardorf stated, “Fashion shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be”. If you are a planet lover, you should certainly reflect down to the swimwear! We’ve rounded-up some fashion-forward yet eco-friendly poolside pieces just in time for summer!

1. SummerLoves Swimwear

Designed by surfer and wanderlust-er, Vanessa Rivers, SummerLoves Swimwear is environmental as it is affordable. In her travels, Vanessa was inspired to find a glam yet eco-friendly fabric for her sexy and modern swimwear line. Today, SummerLoves Swimwear is exclusively made from the recycled polyamide fiber, ECONYL. This polyamide fiber is previously used in fishing nets which, when discarded in the ocean, kills thousands of sea creatures. So, the Healthy Seas Initiative has teamed up with fisherman to sustain these nets to recycle as ECONYL which is now used to create many fabrics, including those for SummerLoves Swimwear. http://www.summerloveswimwear.com

2. Auria

A modern, vibrant, and futuristic take on swimwear, this brand just recently made its debut at London Fashion Week 2013. Like SummerLoves Swimwear, Auria also uses recycled nets as textiles to add to the sustainable quality. Founder Diana Auria has also collaborated with the tech brand, Sony to create a travel collection which includes beach bags, phone cases, sunglasses cases, and much more!

3. JungleGirl

The surfer and JungleGirl Swimwear designer got her inspiration by her parents, an islander father, and an American-born mother. The collision makes this an island-chic brand that is perfect for every traveler’s style. Reused vintage products are used to add a sustainable and unique touch to the free-spirited and glam brand!

4. Elle Evans

Another ECONYL user, Elle Evans is focused on an ethical supply chain from start to finish. The company is totally transparent when it comes to using non-polluting production, sustainable fabrics, and fair-trade workers (as seen on the Elle Evans website). This line is perfect for practically everyone as it started as a children’s brand and moved its way up into teen and adult sizes. Another plus side? Many Elle Evans pieces are reversible — it’s like having two bikinis in one! http://www.elleevansswimwear.com.au

5. Maaji

The "Magic of Maaji" is based on the unique culture of Columbia. Sisters Manuela and Amalia Sierra have allowed the radiance and romance of their Colombian heritage shine boldly through each design. Maaji contributes to the economical and sustainable development of its home country. This company not only gives back through fashion but through being "Earth Warriors" in planting trees in Columbia.
